Brimbank City Council is committed to working with our community to enhance the level of pedestrian amenity and safety in our local areas. Council launched the Walk St Albans campaign in October 2010 to encourage pedestrians to take care in St Albans.
The key messages of the campaign are that "Your life is worth the wait" and that pedestrians should "Stop. Think. Live". The campaign delivered messages through a variety of methods including innovative and interactive forms of promotion such as bicycle space Ads, on-street engagement with the community, street stenciling and an online animation clip. Traditional methods of promotion such as direct mail to residents and retailers, postcards, local and cultural newspaper advertisements, street flags and fence signage also accompanied these activities.
Brimbank's annual Walking in the Rain event is taking place on Sunday July 25 and everybody is invited to join in. The walk starts at Watergardens Town Centre, Melton Highway, Taylors Lakes next to the main food court. The walk starts at 10am sharp, with participants able to register on the day from 9am. Participants can choose from two walking distances - a 3.5 km and 5.5 km. A complimentary lunch, refreshments and entertainment are provided at the conclusion of the walk at Overnewton Gatehouse Gallery, Keilor. There are prizes for children with the best decorated beanie and umbrella. Registration forms are available at Council's Customer Service Centres, Leisure Centres, Libraries and Watergardens Town Centre.
