Let your community know

Arriving at school

If you let local people know the work you’ve been doing has resulted in something that could change their lives for the better, let them know.

You might find that people find success attractive, and are more willing to get involved in your group once they can see that you’re achieving results. It also helps give your members some recognition for the work they’ve put in.

As well as media promotion, you could use some of the ideas suggested in getting started, or even hold an event or celebration, like some of the ones outlined in stuff you can do yourself. Again, don’t forget to invite and credit anyone who’s been supportive or active in helping you achieve your success.

You could also:

  • Start a neighbourhood newsletter, outlining the aims of your group and what you’ve already achieved. This should go to all your members, as well as some of the people who are likely or potential supporters of your cause.
  • Have some bumper stickers or badges/ button made up for members or supporters.
  • Approach some of your supporters or potential supporters, and ask if you can come and talk to them about what you’ve already achieved, and what you’d like to be able to do next.
  • Start a petition, asking local or state government to pick up where your group has left off (if you’ve done as much as you can do with your own resources, and need more resources to finish or improve the job, then invite people to sign the petition to ask for the resources you need).
