If you’ve had a big win – or even a small one – let the media know.
The story will be even more likely to be published if you can demonstrate how your work has made a difference to people’s lives: are they more active, better connected, healthier, or have they saved money or shrunk their environmental footprint?
And think about what photographs might be able to accompany the story – a good photo can make the difference between a big story and a little one.
Finally, don’t forget to give credit where it’s due. If your success is partly due to the input or support of a local council, state government or a politician, mention their help. It’s both a courteous thing to do, and it’ll make them even more willing to help you next time.
(If someone’s worked against you, though, it might be better to leave that bit out.)
