This part of the Victoria Walks website has been created to give you detailed information, help and support, so that you can start work on transforming your area into a walkable neighbourhood.
We’ve broken the information into sections to make it easier to read, and so you can dip in and out as you need to.
- Getting started helps you work out how to find other local people who are also interested in creating a walking-friendly neighbourhood, and how to bring them together.
- Forming your group offers tips on how you organise and run a meeting, and invites you to think about whether your group should be incorporated, and whether you need a mission, vision or charter.
- Getting active runs through the sorts of things your group will be able to do right away, without any support, funding, or even cooperation from government or anyone else.
- Getting more help works through how you can build your case for change, how you can identify who to influence, lobby and get involved, and how to drum up support. It also includes some hints on working with government and the media.
- Promoting successes is pretty self-explanatory – and also, in some ways, the best bit. And your group will have successes! To keep you motivated (especially when the going seems a bit rough) have a look at our case studies section, so you can see what it’s possible to achieve.
