TravelSmart is an initiative of the Victorian Government that aims to reduce people's dependency on cars and encourage them to choose sustainable travel alternatives, such as walking, cycling or catching public transport.
TravelSmart has worked with local councils, schools, households, workplaces and organisations to develop and deliver travel plans and other travel behaviour change projects.
The TravelSmart website details many case studies and initiatives such as grants that are available to address barriers to walking, cycling and public transport use. There’s also the WalkSmart program which encourages people to walk all or part of the way to work, using pedometers to calculate their daily steps.
