Apollo Bay WAG
The Apollo Bay Walking Action Group are a range of people from different ages, backgrounds and abilities who walk and cycle as a form of transport in and around Apollo Bay and wish to make walking and cycling routes safer, more enjoyable and more accessible for all.
The Apollo Bay WAG Group meets at the Apollo Bay, Marrar Woorn Neighbourhood House on Pengilley Avenue on the third Wednesday of every month at 11:15 to discuss a range of issues related to walkability.
“I love Apollo Bay as it is a happy and friendly place to be. You walk down the street and people always say hello to you. What would make the town even more enjoyable would be more footpaths and pedestrian crossing points that make it safe for people walking to cross safely” – Joan Bilston, Apollo Bay resident & member of Apollo Bay WAG
“I feel happy to say that I live in beautiful Apollo Bay. The walkability of our town does need to be improved however such as having more seating so that people can stop for a rests when they are walking, as well as improving the dreadful and dangerous so they are safer for pedestrians” – Liz Backhouse, Apollo Bay resident and WAG member
"Apollo Bay has a really strong sense of community and it is a real jewel along the Great Ocean Road but as a young mum who walks and rides with my children I see firsthand the poor condition of our roads & footpath networks. This needs to be improved to make walking and cycling a safe and enjoyable mode of transport for people getting around the town" – Gosia, WAG member and resident of Apollo Bay.
“I love being able to walk and ride regularly but we do need to address the condition of the roads and have more footpaths to improve the town and its walkability”. – Jane Buckingham, WAG member and Apollo Bay resident.
