Victoria Walks seeks new Board Directors to help shape the future of walking in Victoria

18 Jun 2026

Victoria Walks is seeking two new Board Directors to help guide the organisation through an ambitious new phase focused on creating safer, healthier and more walkable communities across Victoria.

The recruitment follows the recent launch of Victoria Walks' Strategic Plan 2026–2030, which sets an ambitious goal: to help halve pedestrian deaths in Victoria and increase the proportion of trips made on foot or by bike to one in four by 2030.

Board Chair Josephine Monger said the organisation was entering an important period of growth and influence.

"Victoria Walks has built a strong reputation as an independent and trusted voice for walking over many years," Ms Monger said.

"Our new strategy recognises that walking is fundamental to healthier communities, safer streets, stronger local economies and a more sustainable transport system.

"As we implement this strategy, we are seeking Directors who can help us strengthen our impact, expand our partnerships and influence the decisions that shape how Victorians move through their communities every day."

Victoria Walks is particularly interested in hearing from leaders with expertise in either public health or transport and mobility.

Chief Executive Officer Sarah Pilgrim said the organisation was looking for leaders who could help drive systems change and ensure walking receives the attention it deserves in transport, planning and public health decision-making.

"For too long, walking has been treated as an afterthought in many of the decisions that shape our neighbourhoods, streets and transport networks," Ms Pilgrim said.

"We know people are far more likely to walk when their environment makes it safe, convenient and enjoyable to do so. That's why our focus is increasingly on influencing the systems, policies and investments that determine whether walking is a practical choice in everyday life.

"We are looking for Board members who bring deep expertise, strong networks and a commitment to helping create a Victoria where walking is safe, easy and part of everyday life."

Ideal candidates will bring strategic insight, sector influence and experience in public health, preventive health, transport planning, active transport, mobility, urban planning or related fields. Experience in public policy, governance, partnerships, organisational growth, fundraising or stakeholder engagement would also be highly regarded.

Victoria Walks is the state's peak body for walking, working to improve health, wellbeing, social connection and liveability by advocating for environments where walking is safe, easy and part of everyday life.
